SAL’S QUICK HITS: GAME #42 vs. CAR

January 02, 2026

Bryce Salvador

What a win yesterday, Devils fans!!! Huge one coming up again tonight at 7 p.m., so let’s get right into it.

HALFWAY POINT
Now that we’ve officially reached the halfway point of the season, it is a great opportunity to put some perspective on the fact that the Devils only have two fewer wins than they did at Game #41 last season, when they were comfortably sitting in a playoff spot and top 3 in the Eastern Conference.

Here are some of my thoughts on that from yesterday’s postgame show:

DOUGIE FOLLOW-UP
Well, if you read this section of my last article or tuned into our telecast yesterday, you would know that Dano and I were pushing pretty hard for Dougie to snap his 26-game goal drought. Good thing history rhymes! 😉

(Time to keep an eye on this part of history, now 👀)…

HAPPY 27th BIRTHDAY TO THE CAPTAIN!
The Captain enters tonight with PPGs in back-to-back games, and I’m optimistic he will extend his goal streak to three tonight, considering he has scored a goal in each of the last two games the Devils have played on his birthday!

But, regardless of whether he scores or not, I know the only birthday gift that matters to Nico is the big W at the end of the night. Get it done!

BLEEDING GOALS
The Canes have lost 3 in a row in regulation, conceding 17 Goals in the process — tied for the most CAR has conceded in any 3-game span of the Rod Brind’Amour HC era.

NO "B2B EXCUSE" FOR THE DEVILS
The “second half of a back-to-back” excuse does not exist tonight for the Devils! You couldn’t draw it up much more difficult for the Canes, as they were traveling to Newark from their game in Raleigh vs. COL last night (5-3 L) while the Devils were in their comfy beds at home getting a good night’s sleep.

Be sure to join Rupper, Rachel, and me for tonight's pregame show as we break down how the Devils are finding the back of the net over their last four games, Marky's recent stretch of hockey, and NJD's strong defensive play. LGD!
